Perfect Fluffy Darsa Organics White Basmati Rice

Follow these simple steps to achieve restaurant-quality basmati rice at home.

Preparation:

  1. Rinse the rice: In a fine-mesh strainer, rinse the basmati rice under cold running water for 1-2 minutes, swirling the grains to remove excess starch Alternatively, soak the rice in a bowl of water for 15 minutes, then drain thoroughly.
  2. Cook the rice: In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed basmati rice, water, butter (if using), and salt. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to low, cover the pot tightly with a lid, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the water is absorbed and the rice is cooked. 
  3. Fluff and serve: Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes. This allows the steam to finish cooking the rice and creates fluffy, separate grains. Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.

Notes:

  1. For a richer flavour, substitute chicken or vegetable broth for the water.
  2. Want to add some pizzazz? Sauté chopped vegetables like onions, carrots, or peas in the butter before adding the rice.
  3. Leftover rice can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in the microwave or on the stovetop with a splash of water.
